Social and community participation

Support to get out, join in and build friendships and confidence. The beach, a restaurant, footy in the park or a road trip: there is a community out there waiting for you.

Community participation, in plain words

Supports that assist a participant to take part in community, social, cultural and civic activities.

Your core supports will have this funding if one of your goals is to spend more time in your local community and get involved in group or social activities and events (NDIS, core supports).

From 1 October 2026, budgets for Social, Economic and Community Participation are being reduced as plans are created or reassessed, or renewed from 1 February 2027 (NDIS).

Questions

Questions people ask

Still unsure? Call 1300 212 035. There are no silly questions.

Goaldis Community Services is a registered NDIS provider: check the NDIS Commission register. This page is general information from Goaldis, checked against official NDIS sources. Current as at October 2026.

Where do you provide community participation support?

In Greater Western Sydney (Parramatta to the foothills of the Blue Mountains), Ryde and Macquarie Park (Gladesville to North Ryde), and The Hills (Norwest, Cherrybrook, Kellyville). Live somewhere else in Sydney? Call 1300 212 035 and ask us.

What kind of activities can I do?

Whatever fits your goals: the beach, a restaurant, footy in the park, a class, a cultural event or a road trip. Tell us what you enjoy and we will plan around it.

Can I join a community group?

Yes. We can support you to join community groups, clubs and events, as well as go on one-on-one outings.

Will this help me do more on my own?

That is part of the aim. We help you develop the skills that make taking part in your community easier.

How is it funded?

Usually from the core supports in your NDIS plan, if one of your goals is to spend more time in your community. How much depends on your goals and what the NDIS approves in your plan. Source: NDIS.

Is community participation funding changing?

Yes. Starting from 1 October 2026, the NDIS is reducing budgets for Social, Economic and Community Participation as plans are created or reassessed, or renewed from 1 February 2027. The NDIS says the impact is different for every participant, and some supports, like employment supports, are not affected. If your plan changes, call us and we will work out together how to make the most of it. Source: NDIS, Changes to support budgets.
